"Philosophy & Games" -- For centuries philosophers have explored the concepts of "game" and "play," from Friedrich Schiller's notion of the "play-drive" to Johan Huizinga's image of "the human as player." In this presentation Alex Gallowy will explore the interplay between philosophy and games in these and other writers, ending with a quick introduction to the contemporary trend known as "object-oriented philosophy."

Alexander R. Galloway is a writer and programmer. He is creator of the Carnivore and Kriegspiel projects, and author of the book "Gaming: Essays on Algorithmic Culture" (Minnesota, 2006). He teaches media theory at NYU in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication.
