NYCGI: One Year and Counting

So it's been an entire year since nycgameindustry.com went live and wow, what a year it has been! Time really does fly when you're having fun.

First off, we want to thank all of you for continuing to make this site such a fantastic resource for our scene. By working together we can continue to grow the community from the ground up and build upon the already incredible game development foundation that’s here. We may not be as big some of the other gaming hubs across the country, but our size allows us a unique opportunity to develop our identity; to carve out our own place in the game industry and decide how we want to influence popular culture together.

Over the past year, the site went through many changes and the team as a whole learned a lot about what it takes to maintain a website day to day. Lots of tweaks were done here and there to increase site performance, enhance usability, and incorporate the features you wanted most. We saw the inclusion of private messaging, company filters, and so much more. Going forward we plan to continue integrating features such as these to provide you with an even better all-around experience.

Throughout the holidays we’ll also be doing a bit of clean-up around the site. Shifting some stuff around on the backend and updating various pages that have been neglected these past couple weeks. Of particular interest are the directories. We’ll be combing through them to make sure the listings are as up-to-date as possible.

Unfortunately, this year we saw a couple of prominent studios in our area succumb to the reality of the current economy. However, there's also been a bunch of new companies that have sprung up to take their place. It’s an always evolving landscape and we aim to stay on top of it. If you know of a company or school in the NYC area that is not in the directory (it may even be your own), let us know about it! You guys are the eyes and ears of this city; and at the very least it’ll give us an opportunity to meet you personally.

As you might have noticed we enjoy working on the site and we hope you enjoy the time you spend here. Moving forward it’s important that we hear from you guys. What can we do to improve? What types of things would you like to see? The site is always accepting feature ideas, article submissions, etc. We encourage you to get involved. After all, the site was built with community in mind.
