This is a quick recap of the NYCGI Meet n' Drink: April 2010 event for those of you who were unable to attend due to other engagements.
Spring is here! Cool tempratures along with a cloudless sky made me excited for the event. Everyone was out enjoying the weather and the trip over to Barcade was awesome.
I rolled up at the usual time and found the place to be busy with hearty conversation, which it often is. There were no other specific events happening this time around, but the crowd at Barcade is always happy to toast a pint with you. Interesting enough, there were some photography students there and I got a chance to get some pointers before the video game crowd rolled in. As always, in the background the soothing sound of Punch-out, Paperboy (which is new to the Barcade line-up), Q-bert and other classic arcade games looped providing a nice ambiance to the room.
Around 7:00pm familiar video game industry faces began to grace my presence. In addition to the regulars, there were a few new faces that I was happy to meet. The turn out this month was right in line with what it should have been, especially with everyone comfortably back from GDC and other industry-wide events. There was also plenty to talk about due to everyone being energized from GDC.
One particular point of the evening that I find noteworthy is a coding conversation that took place. As I am studying for my BS in Game & Simulation Programming, it's always rewarding to pick the brains of veterans that make it out to these events. Cheers!
Around midnight, the general consensus was that everyone was hungry. So, what did we decide to do this week for food? Yup, you guessed it, San Loco! This place is the perfect compliment for NYCGI Meet n' Drinks due to two simple facts, they are open REALLY late and they are within walking distance from the bar! Oh I forgot to mention their food is FABULOUS! Seriously, if you haven't been you need to try them out.
So another month, another successful Meet n' Drink. To all of you who were unable to make it last week, we look forward to seeing you next month!
Just as an FYI, the dates of our drink nights might be moving to the weekend due to some conflicts in schedules that have been brought to my attention. Regardless, I will be sure to keep everyone posted.
