Re: Introduce yourself!

I guess I'll start!

I'm a programmer (c++/c#) who graduated in October 08 with a Bachelors of game development from Full Sail University. Currently living in Ozone Park, Queens.

I'm an editor here on this lovely site as well as being very busy with a few personal projects as I look to see what I'm going to do with myself. As of this point I'm mostly working on a small game project with a team of people from the site here!

You might here about it soon! Might not! Who knows!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi All!

My name is Adam and I am a student at DeVry. I am studying for my BA in Game & Sim programming. I too am one of the editors of this amazing site.

I love to play games almost as much as I love to code them. I look forward to meeting everyone and hearing what everyone's interests are.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello out there!

My name is Richard and I graduated from Brooklyn College with a BA in Art. I am looking to enter the Video Game industry. However, I am not an editor on this amazing site.

I love to play games, and hopefully, I want to work on them and create them. If you have any tips or whatnot, feel free to send me a message. I am very eager about working in this industry, but am still wet behind the ears. I suppose my profile will give you a bit of a more detailed summary about me if you're interested.

I heard about this site from the New York Anime Fest's "How to get a job in video games" panel from someone who works here. Thanks for passing it along, and nice to meet you all.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone!

My name is Justin and I moved to the city last summer after graduating with an MA in Journalism. I'm currently working at Scholastic, but my passion project and hopefully full-time gig someday is video game blogging/podcasting. One of these days, I'll get around to contributing something for the site, but in the meantime, I wanted to introduce myself and thank you guys for running a great site. The developer directory was actually a huge help when I was working on a project this summer.

No game-makin' experience over here, but you may see me at some of the meet-ups in the near future anyway.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hello!

I found out about this site from Dave Gilbert (Wadjet Eye Games). I did the background art for his game Emerald City Confidential and am also finishing up the background art for Puzzle Bots.

I primarily come from the world of comic books, where I've worked for Disney, Nickelodeon, DC, Scholastic, First Second, and others, but not long ago got into video games. Well, I've been into video games for a long time, having made a few for Commodore 64, but there was quite a gap before getting back into it.

Recently I worked on projects for PlayStation Home. I was concept designer on the Undead Yourself zombie campaign this past Halloween, character designer and animator on the Cupid On Notice Valentine's Day event going on this week, and a designer on the Villain's Lair apartment space which recently launched (primarily the World Domination mini-game.)

I've also been working on and off on my own point-and-click adventure game, Nearly Departed, but have hit some snags with the old engine I was using and still need to convert it to the latest version so I can finally release it. I've got a demo out if anyone's curious at www.johngreenart.com/nearlydeparted

Anyway, just thought I'd say hi!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi everyone!

My name's Michael and I'm an undergrad studying Music Composition and Computer Science at NYU. The first experience I've had with making games was playing around in junior high & high school with BASIC variants like BlitzBasic and DarkBasic. Now I play around mostly in C# and XNA, and more recently Actionscript 3 and Flex.

I heard about this group because a couple weeks ago I did the Global Game Jam and created & implemented the music & sound for Deceptive Platformer with Stefan, Dave, Peter, Sam, John, and Paul (science ninja team fishkabob!). So I went to the drink night on Thursday, had a lot of fun, and now here I am.

This is a fantastic site for connecting everybody! I've been sitting in NYU for a little while wondering Where are all the game developers? But now I know, and I'll be sure to spread the word over there amongst the young'uns.

Re: Introduce yourself!

I have actually never been on these forums even tho I come by the site once in a while. So, I'll add to this thread.

I'm Tommy, I work for SMASHWORX Entertainment, a sister brand of Tiny Mantis Entertainment. I'm generally doing programming and some marketing.

I have a BBA in Marketing from Pace University. Even tho development and marketing seem quite different, I like them both.

We do a lot of Flash projects at Tiny Mantis including vanilla web games and social network games on Facebook. We're finishing up Propaganda Lander at SMASHWORX, our first independently funded iPhone title.

I've pretty much loved games and the game industry since I first played Mario on the NES. I'm a native New Yorker :)

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hey, my name is Sander, from the Netherlands, currently living in New York City.

From 2000 tot 2008 I was a freelance editor at InsideGamer.nl, the largest gaming website in the Netherlands. In 2009 I became Product Manager Games at Sanoma (publisher of InsideGamer.nl and various other gaming publications). I set up new projects relating to mobile and free-to-play games.

Currently I am doing a 5 month internship at the economic department of the Consulate General of the Netherlands. For the consulate I am doing research into the Dutch and NY gaming industry to see what the consulate can do to promote cooperation between these 2 markets. Feel free to contact me!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi all,

I'm a creative director/copywriter and designer f/t at a digital advertising agency here in NYC. I graduated from Pratt Institute of Art and Design in '06 with a BFA in Graphics and Illustration.

My love for gaming started the moment I loaded a cartridge into the keyboard of my very first Commodore64. My father used to write games and create custom controls for my 64. Right now, my console of choice is my 360 and for PC is Asus.

I'm a hard-core gamer who's looking to get into the creative side of the gaming industry.

Re: Introduce yourself!

Howdy,

My name is Matthew, I'm a Comp Sci undergrad at Binghamton University, and I've been a ravenous gamer since I first booted up Raptor: Call of the Shadows.

I don't have much dedicated game design/development experience, but I'm trying to teach myself XNA in between being funemployed and going to school.

It seems like there are a bunch of kindred spirits here, I can't wait to get involved in the community. See you all at the next Drink N' Meet!

Re: Introduce yourself!

I am Joe Gere and I helped my son Alex aka "Frozenghost001" create Xfuel, the gamers energy drink "by gamers, for gamers". I know, you have not heard of it, but lots of kids have. From inception we are 17 months old. I've come to realize we need to make it here in our backyard first and I'm hoping to get together with some talented people in the NY area who can maybe help us get a little more traction in the marketplace. I won't spam with our URL but Google us and you can find out all about us if you have an interest - thank you!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Good morning, afternoon or night (depending on what time you read this).

I am currently a student at Hunter College and I reside in Brooklyn. I’m interested in music, mainly composing music for video games. Unfortunately, I am not a music major yet (because I have several things to do before declaring music as my major).

I have no idea where to start, but hopefully I can get some kind of internship during the summer. Although, from what I have been searching, it’s harder to find an internship for doing video game music so I may just attempt an internship on the business side to learn more about the legal side. If that is the case, then I might get some networking done. I’m also doing my best to read up on the audio production side of video games.

I heard about this site in this year’s “How to get a job in video games” at this year’s NY Anime Festival/NY Comic Con.

I don’t have any true experience, but I try to write music as much as I can, using the new skills I learn in my music theory classes.

Some samples of my music are available on my looperman.com account. (http://www.looperman.com/profile.php?mod=tracks&mid=154012) It hasn’t been updated in a little while and these tracks were written with very little formal training/teaching, but I’m working on that!

Nice to meet you all.

Re: Introduce yourself!

@genxia - Welcome to the site! The best place for you to start networking would be this Thursday at our Meet N' Drink in Brooklyn:

http://www.nycgameindustry.com/nycgi-meet-n-drink-october-2010/

There are variety of developers that hang there, everything from programmers to audio engineers!

Once again, welcome to the site and hope to see you there!

I've served in the army and have a BA in psychology. So if anyone is looking for someone to help or hire for game design... I'm your man!!!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Greetings fellow gamers!

My name's Gregory Charles Vilfranc and I'm a professional music producer, composer, mix engineer and sound designer in the fields of Recording Arts, TV, Film and Video Games with over 10 years of industry experience. My Resume: http://linkedin.com/in/manchildmusic

I quite frankly am annoyed with the lack of a strong gaming foundation in the greatest city in the world. I intend on connecting with as many of you (gamers, developers, designers, investors) as possible and start a collective aimed at competing with our west coast brothers.

Since 1985 I was told by my parents and 99% of my family that I was wasting my life away playing games. I intend to spark (or inspire the person that sparks) an east coast gaming revolution.

Life in LA I'm sure is great, but we need to create opportunities here for ourselves and those coming behind us. LET'S DO THIS!!!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Welcome TrackStaar!!

Good to have more passionate people here in the ranks! I look forward to meeting you and helping where I can to initiate that "spark".

Cheers!

Re: Introduce yourself!

Hi I'm Eric Gantman. I live in Nassau County, Long Island. I'm a recent undergrad from NYIT's Computer Graphics/Fine Arts program. Can't say I have much experience making games but I'd love to be a part of the process. My strengths lie in drawing and coming up with visuals.

I love video games, and music. Lots and lots of music :D
