Résumé questions

While I went through a business communications class in college where we built a resume for ourselves, It wasn't geared towards a gaming job in particular.

I was wondering that when we send a resume in to a company are they specifically looking to have a cover letter? Or would just the experiences page be good enough?

Any helpful hints for you in the field out there would be great.

ALSO!
Here is my current resume right now, if any of you have any auggestions for it please let me know =) Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Résumé questions

cover letters are important as it gives the person looking over your resume a chance to get to know you better. Your passion and desire to succeed in the industry should shine through. In addition to your listed experience, many recruiters or HR people will move onto the phone call stage based on their "gut feeling" as well. Your cover letter will be a big influence on that.

Re: Résumé questions

SWoskowiak, may I suggest that you maybe change the background image on that page? The contrast is pretty bad, and I can barely see the text link to your resume. Just a suggestion, so that prospective employers don't look away :)

Re: Résumé questions

Yeah =\ google sites is just so I have SOMETHING to show for myself. I have been busy workin for the family and on my side project so much that I've been gettin comfortable just using the google site for now. It seems to show up differently on other machines which is odd too so I really do need something different.

If anyone has suggestions for a good hosting site I would appreciate it =)

Re: Résumé questions

Well, its good that you're thinking of switching. I only use anything Google (code.google.com), for uploading of my random projects.

I would suggest you go with the hosting I have right know, its called "hostmonster.com," and its freaking awesome!

They offer you separate plans, with lower prices for a longer deal(I have a 3-year deal with them, and I paid like $200 total).

If you'd like, they don't bind in contract, and you can exit any time you want! Also, with my service, there is no bandwidth limit, or space limit! Which means I can upload everything from my pc to their servers (albeit encrypted for safety). They also offer a subdomain option (limited to a few hundred), and email accounts, among other things.

The other day I finished uploading a massive 20-gig collection of zipped-and-encrypted stuff onto an ftp server I set up (with no limit).

They also offer all the necessary environments (php, ruby, etc), and a whole host of other things I can't remember off the top of my head. A scripting helper enables the installation of forums(phpbb4), blogs(wordpress), etc. very easily.

Just go to their site if you'd like more in depth information.

"Sounds like a sales pitch!"

Haha, well, it shows how much I like their service, undoubtedly! I just hate it when I see someone limited in bandwidth and/or space for ridiculous prices (godaddy comes to mind at ~$9.99 a month!!!!), so I was trying to help you avoid any of that.
