Well, we always thought the brews at Barcade were a little otherworldly; now it’s been confirmed! It was recently discovered that our favorite gaming theme pub was actually built on an old burial ground... spooky.
As reported by the Gothamist, NYC location blog ScoutingNY recently researched the bar area's history and uncovered the location of a burial ground on a map of Brooklyn circa 1849!
According to the article, "The cemetery was known as the Old Methodist Burying Ground which serviced the Attorney Street Methodist Church and the First Methodist Protestant Church of Williamsburg. When the church closed in 1856, the bodies were allegedly moved to Cyprus Hills Cemetery, but the Scout wonders if a few bodies may remain."
When asked if he thought the location was haunted, Barcade owner Paul Kermizian stated,“The only ghosts we've seen have been in our Ms. Pac Man game!"
One thing’s for certain, here at NYCGI we ain’t afraid of no ghosts! We’ll still be there to perform our own paranormal investigation, and we hope you’ll join us, as we convene at Barcade for our monthly meet n’ drink in February. More info on that coming shortly.
