Atari, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATAR) is a wholly-owned (formerly majority-owned) subsidiary of Infogrames Entertainment S.A. and encompasses its North American operations. Headquartered in New York City, Atari, Inc. employs approximately 150 employees across the U.S. Currently one of the largest third-party publishers of interactive entertainment software in the United States., Atari, Inc. develops, publishes and distributes games for all available platforms. Infogrames Entertainment once the majority shareholder in Atari, Inc, announced at the end of April 2008 to fully reacquire the company and bring to a closure a period of financial underperformance and making the Atari Group whole again.
Atari's publishing business was created out of two primary publishing studios (Santa Monica, California and Beverly, Massachusetts) which focused on the company's core strengths: kids/family games, action/adventure games, retro arcade games and racing titles. With its emphasis on producing interactive entertainment for a mass entertainment audience, the company publishes games at a variety of price points, ranging from value-priced titles to premium-priced products. As of 2008, the company re-organized switching to handle core publishing out of New York, with satellite offices in Santa Clara, California and Seattle, Washington.
