Independent developers in New York and around the world have two weeks left for a chance at $10,000. 2BeeGames recently extended the deadline to October 15th as a way to encourage more entries.
“We’ve learned that giving a small extension close to the deadline really spurs innovation,” manager of 2BeeGames, Tony Tran said. “It gives developers the extra push needed to finish their games.”
2BG accepts submissions from anyone who puts together a game, and Tran said that though some developers might earn publishing deals and sponsorships by entering the contest, all entries would earn recognition and feedback from the community.
“We welcome all type of independent developers from around the world,” Tran said. “From basement coders in Canada to amateur development teams in Romania; even students with no experience. 2BeeGames is home to an extremely diverse set of games. Flash brawlers, space shooters, otherworldly puzzlers, casual quickies; you name it.”
This is 2BG’s second indie development contest. Tran said the first had over 80 applicants and that a few of the entries from the first contest are on their way to publication. Last year’s winner, Cipher Prime is negotiating a publishing deal for Auditorium, an audio-visual puzzle game. According to Tran, the latest contest is more interactive and allows finalists a larger forum for discussion about their games.
“It will be a much grander experience with more giveaways for voters, special events and a few surprises we don’t want to give away yet,” Tran said. “We want to reward the best and brightest indie games; to open the doors for developers and give them an opportunity to shine.”
The winner of the contest earns $10,000 and a multi-platform publishing contract. The contest also includes a $5,000 prize for the community favorite. The contest ends October 15. Those interested in submitting a game may do so at 2BeeGames.com.
