NYU Game Center: Alex Galloway - Philosophy & Games

"Philosophy & Games" -- For centuries philosophers have explored the concepts of "game" and "play," from Friedrich Schiller's notion of the "play-drive" to Johan Huizinga's image of "the human as player." In this presentation Alex Gallowy will explore the interplay between philosophy and games in these and other writers, ending with a quick introduction to the contemporary trend known as "object-oriented philosophy."

Systems of Play: Game Design Fundamentals Recap

Systems of Play, a free video game design workshop series sponsored by local developer Arkadium, jumped off at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan last Wednesday. The event, titled Game Design Fundamentals, drew a crowd of around 40 people and was an entertaining and informative evening.
